Making the Change From Sewing To Art

For the past 5 & 1/2 years I have created a  variety of things with a sewing machine and fabric under the name of Uku Chic. The catalyst was sewing a bunting for my birthday and Uku chic was born. I have enjoyed creating all sorts from school book bags, and kids clothes. You name it I have probably made it or thought about it at least. What made it even more exciting was receiving the feedback from my customers and how much they loved my products. But now its time for change!

A new direction – exploring the NZ Pop Art Scene

For a long time, I have had the desire to create my own products using my own patterns. However a lifelong love for taking photographs has morphed into a passion for creating digital art work using my photographs as the starting point. So Uku Chic has become Jenny Latto – Art + Design.

You may have seen some of my cards and prints which have a distinct Kiwi flavour. My love for travel and having something unique as a memento, has lead me to create my own take on Kiwiana.  Not your usual sheep and jandal  images though.

If you have followed me for a while you may notice that I also have a passion for upcycling, giving something old a new lease on life. Hunting around second hand shops I came across quite a few old wooden trays. Consequently these have been turned into map trays, using  paint, vintage maps and depicting different areas of New Zealand.
