Secondhand Shopping Waiuku: 5 Shops Worth Visiting

Waiuku sits at the bottom of the Awhitu Peninsula and has a rich history which includes the oldest continuously licensed pub and is also the place where the Glenbrook Vintage train travels to. It is also home to a number of secondhand shops ideal for those avid treasure hunters. Though secondhand shopping Waiuku may not take up your whole day, there is plenty of other things to do in the area.

To make planning your day out easier, I’ve popped all the shops on a map, including the places I often stop for coffee and something to eat.

Waiuku Shops

Here’s the list of secondhand shops I visited:

  • St Andrews Op Shop
  • St Johns Op Shop
  • Oohlala Vintage Studio
  • Waiuku Zero Waste
  • Roundabout Furniture

Shop Highlights

  • St Andrews – From the money received from sales they give alot of funds to local groups. St Andrews has a good sized clothing section with reasonable prices
  • St Johns Op Shop – Has a bit of everything including furniture
  • Oohlala Vintage Studio – Vintage and collectables
  • Waiuku Zero Waste – Is committed to reducing waste by recycling, upcycling and repairing. They sell items via The Waiuku Junktion, have a tool library and run various workshops
  • Roundabout Furniture – Lots of furniture plus home decor, some new

Where to Fuel Up

Of course all that exploring works up an appetite so it’s worth planning a coffee break. Waiuku has a number of places to grab a coffee, a couple of my favourites are Glow Restaurant and Bar, and Cafe Alba. Glow currently have a special with cake and coffee for $10

Tips for Secondhand Shopping Waiuku

  • You will need a car – St Andrews and St Johns are within walking distance of each other, the others are not
  • Take a bag – for all the goodies you are going to buy
  • Check the Shops hours – Oohlala is open Fridays and Waiuku Zero Waste is open Thursday to Sunday
  • Allow extra time at Zero Waste – its a reasonable size warehouse type building, with an outside yard
  • Make sure to look up – you never know what’s hiding on the top shelves

Secondhand Shopping Waiuku & More

Waiuku is well worth the stop if you are heading up the Awhitu Peninsula or visiting the area for other reasons. Make a day trip of it and visit the opshops in Pukekohe which is about a 25 minute drive from Waiuku.

Further afield there are a large number of secondhand shops to visit in Hamilton or if traveling north you could visit those in Manukau City

Have you visited any of these shops, what did you think? Did I miss a secondhand shop in the area? I’d love to hear about it in the comments.

You can of course visit me to see what retro goodies I have in stock, however you’ll need to make an appointment.
