Mention Matamata and to a large portion of people, Hobbiton probably springs to mind. However for this self confessed op shopper I’d be checking out the bargains at any op shops first. There are 5 to choose from, so hopefully you’ll find something to satisfy your love of finding a new treasure to add to your collection.
5 Matamata Op Shops
Red Cross Shop, 46 Arawa Street
A small shop with a variety of goods. A good range of clothes some vintage items, bric a brac, books and kid toys with a lovely vibe and very tidy.
Twice Upon a Life Time, 46 Broadway Now Closed
Large shop with a number of rooms filled with a variety of goods. There is a separate book room, a kids toys room and another with house hold bric a brac. Lots of clothes to choose from with some vintage items. Welcoming staff and well lit.
Hospice, 112 Broadway
Another large shop with a good variety of goods for you to give a new home. Lots of clothes, bric a brac some furniture and kids toys. A very tidy shop and lovely staff. Some bargains to be had at this store. Does close 2pm most days.
Salvation Army, 109 Broadway,
Medium sized store with another good variety of things to purchase. Some furniture, kids toys, bric a brac and books. A great selection of clothing too. Well appointed store, tidy and not too cluttered.
The Op Shop – Matamata Community Chest Inc, 102 Arawa Street,
Another large store with a big choice of clothes and jam packed with lots of bric a brac. If you want a bargain then stop by this shop lots of crockery and glass ware to choose from.
SPCA 46 Broadway
I have yet to visit this op shop. Has since opened since I wrote this blog.
