Upcycle A Photo Frame
Often when I’ve had a holiday somewhere I like to purchase souvenirs to remember the visit. Pieces of art can be a little big to put in the suitcase to bring home especially if you’ve traveled on a plane to your destination. However if you buy cards then all you have to do is find a frame.
There are always a great selection of frames from most op shops, but they could do with a little sprucing up. In this tutorial you will learn one way to upcycle a photo frame.
Follow below for written tutorial or see below for the video
Supplies
- Photo Frame
- Paint, base coat and main colour
- Paint Brush
- Sandpaper **
- Water
- Card or photo
- Rag/cloth for wiping down
Instructions
- Make sure to read instructions on paint tins for drying times etc I used Voodoo Molly Base coat and Resene lime green both acrylic paint (water based)
- Remove glass and backing from frame
- Wipe frame down with damp rag to remove grime, then allow to dry
- If need be give a light sand and then wipe again.
- Take paint brush and give the frame two coats of base coat, allowing paint to dry between coats. Make sure paint brush is a little damp (dip in water) before applying paint.
- Mop up any drips of paint with the brush
Once base coat is dry
- Paint two coats of your top colour, allowing to dry between coats.
- For a rustic look give your frame a light sanding in certain areas (see video for more instruction)
- Clean glass
- Trim card or photo to fit frame
- Congratulations you have just created a masterpiece
