Finding Creative Inspiration in Gothenburg
When visiting a new city, especially one in a different country, it can be challenging to decide where to start and what to look at. That was certainly the case when I arrived in Gothenburg. Known for its canals, quirky architecture, and vibrant creative scene, there was no shortage of inspiration for my adventures. Whether you’re a sustainability enthusiast or a lover of creative reuse, here are just a few of the spots that sparked my creativity in this dynamic city.
Gothenburg’s Canals & River : Walk, Paddle, Cycle and more
Gothenburg’s canals define the city’s character, offering a unique blend of historical charm and modern sustainability. Many canal-side buildings have been creatively repurposed, reflecting the city’s commitment to adaptive reuse. The Gota river dissects Gothenburg and you can find many things to do on either side of the river
- Walk or bike along the picturesque canals.
- Try kayaking or canoeing for a more active hands-on experience.
- Hop on a Paddan sightseeing boat tour to learn about Gothenburg’s history.
- Walk along the Gota river, vist the opera house and see the Snail, take a ferry, visit Jussi Björlings square and see the bronze statue of Evert Hanski
- While visiting the area surrounding the opera house you can see the Lilla Bommen building affectionately called The Lipstick. This area is also called the Lilla Bommen which is part of the Gothenburg harbour used for visiting boats and it is also the name given to the land. Also moored permanently is the hotel Barken Viking.
