Description

Raetihi Mixed Media Art

The small towns of New Zealand are the quiet and unassuming places but I find can be the most supportive of artists.

In the middle of the north island is Raetihi a small town with a lot of history. Its only a short trip from Ohakune or the first stop once you’ve made the windy trip along the Para Para’s from Whanganui.

Purported to have the widest street in NZ it also has the most photographed church, The Ratana Church sits proudly on the hill as you approach Raetihi from Ohakune.

The Raetihi Mixed Media Art piece represents the colours of the district from the white for snow to orange celebrating the market gardens in the area. The blue represents the Makotuku River that starts on Mount Ruapehu and the green for the native bush in the area.

The upcycled tray was in a former life a garlic bread tray. As with a lot of my mixed media pieces it has been coated with a urethane – a water based varnish. Use for food but wipe clean after use (cold foods only) or hang on the wall as a one of a kind piece of art.

Measures 65 cm long, width 9.5 cm, 2 cm height

Some of my artwork can be found at The Raetihi Information Centre
