There is nothing more exciting than finding a bargain. One of my hobbies is to go op-shopping and find all the treasures. I love finding discarded treasures and adding them to my collection of bits and pieces. Sometimes I find old sewing things like scissors or perhaps it might be a piece of Crown Lynn with a unique pattern on it It feels like Christmas but the added bonus is you are giving something a new home. I also like to find things that I can upcycle. Whatever it is, the best part is getting something for a great price.

On a recent trip away to Whangarei I had time to do some op-shopping. As I was on foot I could only visit the ones within the vicinity of our accommodation. Unfortunately  a couple of stores weren’t open after being closed during Covid 2019.

North Haven Hospice Op Shop Cnr Robert and John Street

The hospice shop is a huge store with lots and lots of clothing, furniture and house hold goods. I managed to pick up a few bargains here. Now if I had a vehicle then I might have  purchased a bit more.

Red Cross Shop, Bank St

The Red Cross op shop is another huge shop with a variety of goods to choose from. Lots of crockery to purchase so if you’re looking for something to complete a collection you might find it here.

Paperbag Princess, Bank St

A nicely appointed shop which looks more like a clothing boutique store rather than a second hand clothing store. If you’re looking for some great clothes new to you clothes then pop in for a look.

Salvation Army Family Store, Vine Street

The Salvation Army shop was another great store, with lots to choose from. Clothing, kids books and toys and household items.

Second Hand Stores

I also visited a couple of second hand stores. If you are a keen reader then you cant go past The Piggery Secondhand book shop, what a huge shop with an even bigger selection of books. Then I visited whangarei Traders and Auctions which was jammed packed with all sorts of goodies.

If you love to opshop and you’re passing by Whangarei make sure to allow enough time to visit some of the shops. For a map check below – some places are not reviewed as either closed or I didnt have enough time to visit.
